The TFR works alongside MiCA: MiCA authorizes crypto-asset service providers, and the TFR governs the information that must travel with their transfers. It also requires CASPs to assess the risks of transfers involving self-hosted addresses.

What is TFR?
TFR is the EU Transfer of Funds Regulation, Regulation (EU) 2023/1113, which applies the Travel Rule to crypto-asset transfers. Since 30 December 2024, crypto-asset service providers must send originator and beneficiary information with every transfer, with no minimum amount, and verify ownership of self-hosted addresses for transfers above EUR 1,000.
