What is CoinJoin?

CoinJoin is a privacy technique for Bitcoin-style blockchains in which several users combine their inputs into one transaction and receive equal-sized outputs, so observers cannot easily tell which output belongs to which input. It is used by privacy-focused wallets and sometimes to launder proceeds, so compliance teams evaluate it in context.

Definition

CoinJoin deliberately breaks the co-spend heuristic, so analytics must recognize CoinJoin transactions rather than cluster their participants together. Exposure to CoinJoin is a privacy signal, not proof of illicit activity; analysts weigh the wallet, amounts, timing, and what happened to the funds afterward.
